Facundo Manes is an Argentine neurologist and neuroscientist. He studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires and then at the University of Cambridge, England.
He created and currenlty directs INECO (Institute of Cognitive Neurology) and the Institute of Neuroscience of the Favaloro Foundation. Both centers are currently considered leading institutions that pioneer the field of neuroscience in Latin America. He is Professor of Neurology and Cognitive Neuroscience and has published over 250 original scientific papers in the most prestigious international journals of his specialty.
Among his most important contributions, Dr. Manes identified the prefrontal areas related to the decision-making process in humans, the neural mechanisms of aggression.
He has co-developed one of the first holistic cognitive rehabilitation units in Latin America. His current area of research is the neurobiology of mental processes, particularly the neural mechanisms involved in decision making and social behavior. His team has worked intensively on the development of cognitive batteries and screening tests aimed at facilitating the early diagnosis of dementia.
He believes in the importance of scientific dissemination in society and is convinced that the wealth of a country is measured by the value of human capital, education, science and technology, and that there lies the basis for social development, industrial processes, desalination without energy use, among others.
